Got told I was 'doing it wrong' by a barista at my regular coffee spot
I used to think tipping was just about the percentage, like 15% for okay service. But this barista at Joe's Cafe on 5th Street called me out after I left $0.50 on a $4 coffee. She said 'It's not about the math, it's about the person' and that stuck with me. I still tip based on service but I start at $1 now no matter what. Has anyone else had a random stranger change how they handle tipping?

Yeah, that's a fair point honestly. I used to overthink the math too but now I just throw a dollar on any coffee or beer and call it good. It's way simpler and nobody has ever complained about getting too much.

Right there with you @michael669. I used to stress over calculating 18% vs 20% until I realized the servers are just happy to get anything extra. Now I do the same thing with takeout coffee a flat two bucks and move on with my day. Feels good not to overthink a simple transaction. Nobody's ever handed me back a dollar and said "this is too generous.
