Hit 1000 days on Duolingo last week and it totally changed how I think about learning
I started learning Spanish on a whim during quarantine and somehow kept a daily streak going. Last Tuesday I crossed 1000 days which sounds crazy even typing it out. The thing is I never thought I'd stick with anything that long. I used to think you needed a classroom or a teacher to really learn a language. But after 3 years of just doing 5-10 minutes a day I can actually have conversations with my neighbor from Mexico City. The milestone made me realize consistency beats intensity every time. Has anyone else hit a random number like this and had it surprise you?

That's awesome, congrats on 1000 days. I had a similar thing happen with running last year. I got into it just to clear my head after work and somehow ended up with a 200 day streak on my watch. Never thought I'd be that person, but now I can't really imagine not doing it. It's weird how the little habits sneak up on you. Maybe it's just me but those small daily things really do stack up in ways you don't see coming.

Yeah that sneaks up on you fast.

But are they really "sneaking up" on you though... or are you just not paying attention to what you're actually doing until it's already a habit? I feel like people give themselves too little credit for the choices they make along the way. That 200 day streak didn't come from nowhere, you kept choosing to put your shoes on each day.
