Hot take: I used to think all electric cars were just a fad for rich people
I was at a family barbecue in Boise last month and my cousin, who drives a Chevy Bolt, showed me his charging app. He said, 'I filled up for under $8 this week, and that's after driving 250 miles.' That specific number made me stop and actually do the math on my own gas truck. I realized my weekly fuel cost was over four times that for the same distance. I still have concerns about long trips, but I'm now seriously looking at used models under $25,000. Has anyone else made the switch from a truck to an EV and found it actually saved money?

My friend got a $40 surprise fee at a charger, just like @jakejones said.

Charging apps always show the best case. Wait until you see the bill after a public fast charger on a road trip.

Totally agree with @reed.skyler, those apps are way too optimistic. I mean, they never show the extra fees for going over a certain time or the higher rates during peak hours. It feels like you're getting one price, then the final bill has all these extra charges tacked on. Makes planning a trip more stressful than it should be. Maybe it's just me, but that surprise at the charger really kills the vibe.
