I thought my credit score dropped because of my new card, then I pulled all 3 reports and found a 6 year old medical bill from Denver
So my score fell 40 points and I just assumed it was the card I opened for the airline miles back in March. Out of spite I paid $1 on annualcreditreport.com and there it was, a $280 bill from an ER visit in Denver back in 2018, sitting in collections and I had no clue. The weird part is I paid that visit off at the front desk, or at least I thought I did, and nobody ever called me about it once. I disputed it and it came off in 11 days. Now I'm wondering what else is buried in there that I've just been ignoring.
That front desk thing gets me because I've done the same, handed over my card, watched them run it, walked out thinking it's done. If they never sent a bill after that, how were you supposed to know? Makes you wonder how many people are out there with a small paid-off thing sitting in collections just because some billing code never got closed out.
