My garage storage rethink after a messy winter
I used to keep everything on open shelves in the garage. After snow gear piled up, I tried a pegboard system. Organizing hooks and bins cleared the floor and made access easier. Why did I wait so long to try this?

Pegboards are a game changer for keeping tools in check.

Pegboards are great for light stuff, but @max399, heavy tools never stay put! My cordless drill and half-inch socket set kept falling off the hooks. The whole board would shake when I grabbed something. For anything with real weight, I've had way better luck with bins on a shelf or just leaving them in the toolbox drawer.

Yeah, I feel you on that. My pegboard gave up on my heavier cordless impact driver last year, just dropped it right on the concrete floor. I had to side with bins and shelves too for anything with real heft. Max399 might love the pegboard look, but for stuff like my angle grinder or that big socket set, it's just not worth the shaky worry. I keep the light stuff up there now, like my tape measures and pliers.

Learned the hard way that pegboards shake too much for my heavier items. I put up a strong rail system with brackets for things like my circular saw and drill press. Now, all my power tools hang safely without any wobble. For smaller parts, I use clear bins stacked on sturdy shelves. This mix keeps everything visible and easy to reach. It really changed my garage from a cluttered mess to a working space.
