That $15 grocery store basil plant I kept killing finally clicked

I thought buying fresh herbs was a waste because they'd always rot in my fridge after 3 days. Then I tried actually watering and trimming that $3 basil from Safeway like a real plant instead of just leaving it on the counter. Two months later it's still alive and I've saved like $40 on store bought herbs, so has anyone else found a random kitchen plant that changed their whole grocery routine?

Oh man, my friend Sarah got this random cilantro plant from the farmer's market just for a recipe and now it's taken over half her kitchen window. She keeps giving away cuttings to neighbors like she's running some underground herb operation.

Three weeks ago I bought a rosemary plant for $4 at the local nursery. It's still alive on my windowsill and I've used it in three different dinners already. That's already paid for itself compared to the $3 plastic clamshells of fresh rosemary that go bad in my fridge. The trick is forgetting about it for a few days then giving it a good drink. I'm probably going to kill it eventually but right now I feel like some kind of plant wizard.
