The 2 AM email about my recipe blog made me rewrite my process

I run a small recipe site and last month someone emailed me that my instructions were too wordy and they gave up mid-cook. I used to write every step like a novel, but after that I trimmed everything to short action lines and tested 5 recipes with friends. Has anyone else gotten harsh feedback that made you completely redo your workflow?
