The $300 acoustic panel that proved my ears wrong about my studio

I spent two years convinced my mixing room was fine. Cheap carpet, lots of bookshelves, sounded okay to me. Then I borrowed a proper measurement mic from a buddy in Nashville. Turns out I had a nasty 200Hz buildup making my bass sound way bigger than it was. I bought one 4x2 panel from a local builder for $300 and put it at the first reflection point. Night and day difference on mixes I thought were done. Has anyone else found one small change that exposed a big blind spot in their setup?

Whoa, that's wild, but have you tried moving your chair a few inches first before buying anything?
