The moment I realized my cutting board was ruining my knives

I spent two years blaming my cheap knife set for dull edges until a line cook from Portland pointed out my bamboo board was actually harder than the steel. Took a single Sunday slicing tomatoes on a basic plastic board from SmartFoodservice to see the difference immediately. Has anyone else dealt with this where you blame the tool but it is actually your setup that is the problem?

Always thought expensive knives mattered more, but you just changed my whole view on that.

My buddies old $30 Victorinox has outlasted like 3 of my fancy Japanese blades, seriously. It's actually the geometry and steel type that matters more than the price tag.

Totally feel you @jenny47, it's crazy how a basic knife can just keep going like that.
