The morning my vacuum cleaner ate a sock and died for good
Three weeks ago I was cleaning this client's house in Oak Park and my old Shop-Vac just started smoking mid-suck. Pulled a chewed up tube sock out of the hose but the motor was done. Had to finish the job with a broom and dustpan like it was 1995. Ended up dropping $280 on a new one that filters way better. Has anyone else had a tool just give out at the worst possible moment?

That exact same thing happened to me with my leaf blower last fall. Middle of a big cleanup job and it just gave up, smoke everywhere. Had to rake the whole yard by hand like a caveman.
