TIL flip phones beat my smartphone for one whole week

Back in March I dropped my iPhone in a lake up near Traverse City, so I dug out an old flip phone from 2019 as a backup. For seven days I had no apps, no maps, just texts and calls and a camera that took blurry photos. Thing is, I talked to my brother way more that week, and I actually remembered the directions to the hardware store instead of just following GPS. Smartphones are obviously better for work and logistics, but that week made me admit I was wrong about old phones being useless. Has anyone else done a week without a smartphone and noticed something similar?

Honestly that part about remembering directions instead of just following GPS hit me hard. When I did a week without my phone last summer, I found myself actually paying attention to street names and landmarks, and now I can get to places I only ever navigated by phone without thinking. It's like the brain switches back on when it knows it has to do the work. The weirdest part was realizing how much I'd been letting the phone make decisions for me, even small ones like what to eat or when to leave the house.
