Used to think reading food labels was just for health nuts

My doctor showed me my sodium intake at a checkup in Omaha last fall and I was shocked to find my favorite canned soup had 900mg per serving. Now I check labels on everything before it goes in my cart, has anyone else found random products that are way saltier than you'd expect?

David, you're way ahead of me with that reduced sodium suggestion. I actually bought one once thinking I was being smart, didn't notice until I got home it was the 'low sodium' version but that still meant like 400mg per serving, so I basically just paid more for slightly less salt. My dumb self still finished the whole can in one sitting anyway, no shame. 😂

I read a report from the American Heart Association a while back that said most of the sodium people eat doesn't come from the salt shaker it comes from packaged foods. That really stuck with me because I found the same thing with pasta sauce once. One jar of regular stuff had over 800mg per half cup which is basically a third of what you should have all day. It sneaks up on you in things like bread and salad dressing too.

You tried the reduced sodium version yet? Most brands make one now.

Honestly, I'd rather just have the real thing and watch my portion size instead of paying extra for that watered-down taste.
