Vent: how I realized I was wrong about my neighbor after 8 years

I always thought the guy next door was a grump because he never waved back. Then last Saturday I saw him helping a lost kid find their parents for 45 minutes in the rain, and I asked him about it. He told me he's almost blind in one eye and can't see who's waving. Has anyone else completely misjudged someone based on a small thing?

I hate to be that person, but if he was really almost blind in one eye, he probably couldn't spot the kid's parents from a distance either. He might have been wandering around with the kid hoping someone would recognize them. Still a really kind thing to do, just maybe not as efficient as it sounds. Did he say if he knew the kid or was it totally random?

Oh come on, I gotta disagree here! Just because the guy had bad vision doesnt mean he couldnt figure out a better plan than wandering around in the rain for 45 minutes. If I was half blind and found a lost kid Id take them straight to the nearest store or call the cops or something, not just walk around hoping to bump into the parents. Plus, if hes been around the neighborhood long enough to know people, he might have had a better idea where to look. The fact that it took 45 minutes says more about his judgment than his eyesight to me.
