Grandma's rice and beans cost me $4 in 1998 and I still make it every Sunday
Back when I was 19 and broke in Akron, my grandma taught me to stretch a bag of pinto beans and a sack of rice into dinner for the whole week, and I ate it seven nights straight without complaining once. Last Sunday I made that same pot for my kids, and the whole thing ran me $3.87 at the store on Main Street, cheaper than one fast food combo. Does anyone else have a meal from back then that still beats anything you can buy now?
