I called dollar store sardines a sad snack for 3 months, then my neighbor in Fresno made me try them on toast
I used to walk past the $1.25 tins at the Grocery Outlet near my place in Fresno and laugh, because who eats fish from a can that costs less than a soda? My neighbor Rosa kept saying to just try them on warm toast with hot sauce and a squeeze of lime, and I finally caved on a Tuesday when my fridge was empty and payday was 4 days out. I mashed two tins with a fork, piled it on three slices of bread, and ate the whole plate standing at my counter in about 6 minutes. That was 5 weeks ago and I have bought 14 tins since, which works out to around $17 for a bunch of fast dinners. The oil packed ones taste way better than the water ones, just drain them and add salt. What cheap thing did you swear off until someone basically forced you to eat it?
