I finally asked the guy at the taqueria how he makes his beans, and his answer cost me 79 cents
Stopped by the taqueria on 9th last Tuesday and the owner, Beto, watched me scrape the last of the beans off my plate for the third time. I asked what he puts in them and he just shrugged and said "a can of pintos, half an onion, and the bacon grease I save from breakfast." I'd been buying dry beans and soaking them overnight for years like a chump. Now I keep a jar of bacon grease in the fridge and a can of pintos costs 79 cents, which makes about four servings. Does anyone else save their cooking fat like this or am I late to the party?
