Pro tip: making rice in a coffee mug in the microwave beats buying a rice cooker when you live alone
My buddy Marcus came over while I was making dinner and watched me rinse half a cup of rice, dump it in a big mug with a cup of water, and nuke it for 10 minutes. He said that was the saddest thing he had ever seen and that no real cook would skip a $20 rice cooker. Here is the thing though, I have done this 3 nights a week for about 8 months now and it comes out fine every time, and I am not storing another appliance on my counter in a studio apartment. The mug is 50 cents worth of rice for one person with zero leftovers to toss, which a cooker has never once done for me. So does anyone else skip a machine on purpose, or am I really the only one doing this?
