Appreciation post: the Saturday brunch shift from hell that turned into the best day of my year

Last Saturday we got slammed with a 45 minute wait and two no-shows on the line by 10 AM. I was sweating through my chef coat and a ticket for eggs benny had been sitting for 12 minutes. Then the new prep cook jumped on the flat top without being asked and the dishie started polishing plates like his life depended on it. By 2 PM we had turned 140 covers and I actually high-fived a server. Has anyone else had a disaster shift that somehow became the peak of your week?

Hell yeah, that's the stuff right there. Those moments are rare but when they hit, they hit hard. Nothing beats that feeling when everyone just locks in and the chaos turns into a machine. I've had shifts like that where you start the day wanting to quit and end it feeling like you could run the whole restaurant by yourself. It's like the kitchen gods decided to give you a break and let you actually enjoy the work for once. Those are the days that remind me why I chose this life even though it usually sucks.

You ever notice how those perfect shifts always come out of nowhere... like right when you're ready to walk out the door? What do you think makes the difference between a night that turns into pure chaos and one that somehow clicks into place like that? Is it the crew or just dumb luck... maybe both? I've had nights where nothing changed except my own attitude and suddenly everything stopped going sideways.

Honestly, it's usually just letting go of the stress and trusting your crew.
