I spent $300 on a fancy mandoline slicer that I never use

I bought it for a catering job last year, thinking it would save me hours on prep. The thing is so sharp and scary to clean, I'm honestly afraid I'll lose a finger. Now it just sits in a box, and I'm back to using my trusty old knife. Anyone have a good, safe alternative for high-volume slicing?

Wait, you spent three hundred dollars on a slicer? I mean, that's like a whole week of gas money for my car. I'd be too scared to even take it out of the box.

But what are you even slicing that needs a three hundred dollar tool?

Yeah, that "so sharp and scary to clean" feeling is why mine collects dust too. Taylorshah has a point about the price making it even more terrifying to use. I just stick with a good knife and a healthy fear of losing a fingertip.
