Just read a piece in the LA Times about the real history of Caesar salad

It said the original recipe from Tijuana in 1924 didn't have anchovies in the dressing at all... that was a later change. I've been making it with them for fifteen years, thinking that was authentic. Has anyone else found a classic recipe they've been doing 'wrong'?

Tijuana in 1924, seriously? My whole cooking life is a lie. @the_wendy is right to be shook, because anchovies feel absolutely essential now. I guess food history is just full of these little tricks.

My trick is to just mash a couple anchovy fillets into the oil when you start cooking garlic. It melts in and nobody's the wiser. Saved a few bland sauces that way.

Wait, but anchovies make it way better.
