Shoutout to the guy who showed me his sharpening stone setup

My knife went from tearing herbs to clean slices in about 3 minutes after I copied his 15-degree angle. Anyone else have a go-to sharpening trick that actually works fast?

That 15 degree angle is a game changer for sure. I keep a cheap sharpie in my kit just for that. Color the whole edge of the blade before you start, then take a few practice passes on the stone. It'll show you exactly where you're actually hitting so you can lock in the angle. Saves a ton of time guessing, lol.

My buddy tried to sharpen his knife for an hour before I told him about the sharpie trick. He was grinding the spine down and couldn't figure out why it was still dull. That little bit of ink saved his blade and his patience.

Oh man, that reminds me of my roommate trying to use a coffee mug.

My uncle once tried to sharpen his old fishing knife on the concrete curb outside his garage. He swore it worked great until we saw the edge under a light, it looked like a tiny saw. That sharpie trick @robins83 mentioned would have saved him from that mess for sure. Sometimes the simplest ideas are the hardest to figure out on your own, you know? What's the weirdest place you've seen someone try to sharpen a blade?
