Appreciation post: Found my dad's old hand-stitched soot bags while organizing the garage. They don't make them like that anymore.

Hand-stitched soot bags? That's actually shocking. Tbh, I thought everything like that was just cheap mass-produced stuff now. The fact someone took the time to sew those by hand means the quality is unreal. Ngl, I'm kinda jealous yours survived in the garage all this time.

Actually, the real surprise is how hand-stitching changes how the bag holds up over time. Each stitch was done by someone who cared, making it stronger than machine work. My granddad had a few like that, and he said they never tore even with heavy use. They were built to be fixed, not thrown away. Finding one now is like holding a piece of history that still works.

Exactly, the garage might have been the perfect spot for it. That old cloth and thread ages in a weird way, gets tougher almost. Makes you wonder how many perfectly good things get tossed because they look worn.

Wow, that's so true about them being built to be fixed. Read an article once about how old stuff like that had thicker thread and stronger cloth on purpose. They expected you to patch it up yourself when it wore out. Makes today's stuff feel kinda cheap in comparison. Finding one in a garage is like hitting the jackpot.
