Choosing between a 6-inch and an 8-inch poly brush for a tricky terra cotta flue liner

I went with the 6-inch brush and a slower drill speed, which kept the old liner from crumbling like it did for my coworker in Cincinnati last fall, so what's your go-to method for fragile clay liners?

Feel for your coworker, that crumbling is the worst. Slower speed with the smaller brush is smart, lets the bristles do the work instead of forcing it. I've had good luck with a wire cup brush on a low setting for really baked-on stuff in those old liners, just barely kissing the surface.

Ever try a brass wire wheel for that? It's softer so it won't gouge the liner as easy.

Honestly, I'd use the bigger brush but with way less pressure.

Bull. Light pressure just makes it take longer and jasonallen's right, slow and steady with the right tool beats that every time.
