Found a creosote log that actually made me rethink my whole routine

I've been sweeping chimneys for about 12 years now and always thought those creosote logs were just a gimmick for homeowners. Then I read a study from the Chimney Safety Institute of America that said using one every 50 fires can reduce buildup by up to 60% if you combine it with regular sweeping. Has anyone else tried those logs and seen a real difference?

Wait wait wait... 60%? That's actually a real number? I've been telling customers those logs are snake oil for like five years now. I had a regular last winter who swore by them and I kept thinking he was just trying to justify buying them. But then I saw his chimney halfway through the season and it was way cleaner than I expected. Made me feel like a total idiot for being so sure about it.

That "made me feel like a total idiot" part hits close to home. My buddy Jake who does HVAC swore those logs were a total scam too until he pulled a crusty one out of his dad's fireplace that actually broke apart solid buildup he'd been ignoring for years. He still won't admit he was wrong but I saw the picture he sent me and yeah, the difference was pretty obvious.
