Had to pick a new brush head for a tough job in an old farmhouse
It was a massive 12x12 flue with a ton of creosote. I had to choose between my standard poly brush and a new steel wire one I'd just bought. Went with the steel, even though it was heavier. It cut through the buildup in about half the time, but my arms were sore for two days. Anyone have a trick for handling the extra weight on those big jobs?

Steel brushes are beasts on thick creosote. Maybe try a wrist strap to help with the weight, or take more short breaks to shake out your arms. What kind of handle are you using on that brush?

Actually steel brushes can spark and be a real fire risk on thick, dry creosote. You want a poly brush for that stage. Steel is better for the initial gooey stuff. I learned that the hard way cleaning my own chimney last fall. Scared me pretty good.

Honestly, "my arms were sore for two days" is my normal state after a big job. I just tell people I got a real intense workout in, not that I was wrestling a chimney brush. The extra weight is no joke.
