Old sweeper in St. Louis told me to quit using spin tools for everything

This guy Mike, been doing this since the 80s, watched me try to clean a stubborn creosote glaze with my rotary kit. He pulled me aside and said 'throw that thing away and just use the manual rods with a wire brush.' I thought he was crazy, but after 20 minutes of that spin tool getting nowhere, I tried his way. Knocked the whole flue clean in half the time. Anybody else find certain jobs just work better with old school methods?

Mike's 80s rodding technique already saved me a service call last winter.

Totally get what you mean. I used to be super skeptical about old school tricks like that. Thought newer was always better. But after watching a few videos of Mike's method actually working, I tried it out on a stubborn furnace. Worked like a charm. Changed my whole view honestly. Now I keep that trick in my back pocket every winter.
