Old timer told me to stop using wire brushes on clay flues
An 85 year old retired sweep saw me getting ready with a wire brush attachment on a clay liner last month. He just shook his head and said I was scratching up the glazing. I switched to a poly brush that afternoon and honestly the soot comes off cleaner now. Anyone else get handed down wisdom that changed how you prep?

My husband actually dropped his phone face-down on gravel last week (he thought he was being careful, but gravity had other plans). It landed right on a rough patch and now there's a scratch that looks like a tiny lightning bolt across the top corner. I keep telling him it gives it character, but he's been eyeing screen protectors online ever since. So yeah, I'd say the scratching is pretty bad if you're clumsy like us!

Ngl that's a fair point, but I think the real issue is how deep scratches affect resale value down the line. Even a tiny hairline scratch can knock like $50-100 off what a trade-in or private sale is worth, especially if it's on the screen itself. Tbh it depends on how long you keep your phone, but if you upgrade every couple years those little marks add up fast.
