Old timer told me to use shop vac instead of a brush on creosote buildup

I tried it last week on a heavy flue in a 1920s house and it knocked loose way more gunk than my rods ever did. Has anyone else switched to vacuum-only for heavy buildup jobs?

Shop vac instead of a brush" - that’s fine for loose stuff but you still need to scrape the hard crust first.

Yeah @margareto26, fair point - I used to skip the scrape but now I get it.
