Rant: my boot brush almost ruined a $9,000 install in Asheville

Last month I was doing a routine sweep at a big house off Merrimon Avenue. I leaned my boot brush against the hearth while I ran the rotary head up the flue, and somehow the bristles got sucked into the draft. It jammed the cable, snapped the head right off, and I had to spend 3 hours fishing brush fibers and metal bits out of the liner. The homeowner was cool about it, but I felt like a total amateur. Now I keep a dedicated hook on my truck for that brush and never set it down within arm's reach of the firebox. Anyone else had a random tool cause a nightmare mid-sweep? What's your rule for keeping gear clear of the opening?

That brush saved you from finding a cracked liner later.
