Storm season always reveals the chimneys people forgot about
Every year, when the first cold snap hits, my phone rings off the hook. It's the same story: chimneys that haven't been touched since last winter. I went to one house where the flue was completely clogged with leaves and twigs. The damper wouldn't even budge. We had to do a full dismantle to get it clear. The homeowner had no idea it was that bad. It's a good lesson in not waiting until the last minute. A quick summer check could save a lot of trouble later.

That's how house fires start, honestly.

Left a pizza box on a cold stovetop once, then turned on what I thought was a different burner. The whole place smelled like melted plastic and shame for a week. Learned my lesson about cluttered cooking spaces the hard way.

Remember that time I tried to use my fireplace and just got a room full of smoke? I started getting it cleaned every fall now, and it's been perfect since. It's one of those boring chores that actually matters.

After reading that, I'm glad I started setting calendar reminders for my chimney sweep! Last year I had a bird's nest stuck in there and didn't know until I tried to light a fire. It was a mess, but calling a pro early saved me from a bigger headache. Now I check it every spring, and it takes like ten minutes. It's so much easier to catch problems before they get bad. Honestly, a little routine check can prevent so much stress later!
