Took a fall off a slate roof in Albany last March and it rewired my whole setup

I was working alone on a steep Victorian near Washington Park when my ladder boot slipped on some wet moss. Landed hard on the gutter but luckily only bruised my ribs and broke my phone. Anyone here switched to using a roof anchor and harness even on what they think is a simple one-story job?

Man, that is a HARD lesson to learn. I have been there myself with a sketchy ladder moment that still makes my stomach drop. You are absolutely right to switch to a harness and anchor even for a one-story job. That fall could have been WAY worse if you had hit your head or twisted an ankle. A broken phone and bruised ribs is honestly a cheap warning compared to what could have happened. I say get the gear and never climb without it again.

My uncle Bill broke his collarbone back in 2016 from a fall off a six-foot stepladder changing a lightbulb. He was just reaching a little too far to the side and the whole thing tipped over. Landed on a concrete floor and that collarbone snapped clean. Six weeks in a sling and he still complains about the weather affecting it. Ladders are just sneaky dangerous no matter the height.

Jennifers uncle Bills fall sounds rough. Six weeks in a sling is no joke and that weather sensitivity stuff sticks with you. I had a buddy who broke his wrist the same way reaching too far and its amazing how fast those little ladders can flip.
