Update: I switched from a basic brush to a poly brush for a tough creosote job

I had a job on an old farmhouse chimney in Springfield last month that was packed with stage three creosote. I brought my usual steel brush set, but after an hour of hard work, I was barely making a dent. I remembered I had a poly brush in the truck that a buddy gave me, so I swapped it out. The difference was night and day. The poly bristles seemed to grab and pull the glazed creosote off the clay liner way better without getting stuck. I finished the job in half the time, and the camera inspection showed a clean sweep. I think the flexibility of the poly bristles made the big difference on that uneven, old flue. Has anyone else found a specific tool that turned a hard job into an easy one?

Exactly, that flexibility lets the brush follow the liner's shape instead of fighting it. Ever try a poly brush on a really out-of-round flue?

My old drill's chuck key broke, so I started using a pair of pliers and now I prefer it.

Oh for real, pliers just grip so much better anyway.

Poly brushes are a game changer for glazed creosote, the flex really does the trick. It's like how jades46 found a better way with pliers over a chuck key. Sometimes the simple tool swap makes all the difference.
