Wasted $60 on that "magic" carbon brush kit for rotary drills

Picked up a fancy carbon brush set off some online ad last spring. Claimed it would make my old rotary drill work like new for years. Installed it on a job in Denver and the brush fell apart after 3 uses. Left black dust all inside the motor housing and I had to trash the whole drill. Anyone else get burned by one of those overpriced brush kits?

Installed mine on a Hitachi hammer drill and the brushes turned to dust by the second use. Same black grit everywhere. Total scam.

Did your friend get a refund? My buddy Tom put these in his Milwaukee rotary hammer and the very first time he used it on a concrete slab the brushes started smoking. He pulled them out and they were already half gone with black powder caked all over the commutator. Took the whole thing to a repair shop and the guy said the cheap carbon compound they use just melts and grinds away under any real load.

Man, that's rough. Sounds like those kits are just selling cheap dust in a fancy package. Sorry you had to junk the whole drill because of it.
