I got the block torn down to nothing back in April, labeled every bolt in bags, and now I walk past it in the garage every morning feeling guilty. A guy at the auto parts store told me machine work around here runs $800 to $1,200 depending on how much needs bored, which is honestly less than I expected. Anybody else get stuck at this stage or do you just hand it off and let the shop deal with it?
Wait, $800 to $1,200?? That seems crazy low for machine work these days. I had a buddy get his 302 bored and honed last year and he paid almost double that just for the block work alone, before they even touched the heads. Maybe prices are way different where you live but that quote would have me a little suspicious honestly. I'd call around to a couple shops and see if that number holds up.
