Buddy told me I was crazy for putting my '65 Mustang on jack stands all winter

I kept it up for 6 months in my garage near Spokane, and when spring came the tires were totally flat from weight sitting in one spot. He was right - should have just driven it every few weeks instead. Anyone else have a well-meaning friend give storage advice that actually worked?

Man, I used to be the guy telling everyone to throw their cars up on stands for winter. I thought I was being smart saving the suspension and tires. But after seeing a buddy's '66 Impala come out of storage with a seized caliper and tires that looked like they had square edges, I changed my tune completely. Now I just take mine for a short spin once a month when the roads are dry, keeps everything moving and the battery charged up.

Is running an engine for 15 minutes really enough to prevent damage?

My '72 Chevelle sat on jack stands for a whole winter back in 2015 and I learned the same lesson the hard way. The brake lines rusted from not moving, and the battery was completely dead by March. Now I just run the engine for 15 minutes every couple weeks and roll it forward a few feet to keep the tires from getting flat spots.
