Finally gave up on indoor storage after my '68 Mustang got surface rust in 3 months
I used to think keeping my car in my garage was good enough. But in Ohio the humidity is brutal. After that Mustang started showing rust spots on the fender edge I moved it to a climate controlled unit 15 miles away. Cost me $250 a month but zero rust now. Anyone else deal with garage humidity ruining a paint job?

Hear me out - I swapped to a dehumidifier in my garage and aimed a box fan at the car every time I parked it. Cost me like 80 bucks for the dehumidifier and my electric bill went up maybe 15 a month. Still got some surface rust on the door edges after a year though. Ended up just wiping the car down with WD-40 on a rag every couple weeks - sounds crazy but it actually kept the rust at bay for years after that. No climate control needed, just a little elbow grease and some good old fashioned American ingenuity.

Man, that WD-40 trick takes me back. Buddy of mine used to spray it all over his old Ford pickup's undercarriage every fall before the salt trucks came out. Swore by it for like five years straight until the truck finally got too rotted out underneath to pass inspection anyway.

Five years of wiping rust off and the truck still rotted out anyway? Sounds like the WD-40 bought you some time but didn't really solve the problem. I'm not sure a rag with lubricant every couple weeks is that much easier than just parking the car somewhere dry.
