Learned my lesson after storing my Mustang at a self-storage place in Phoenix for 6 months

I needed space for a project so I put my '67 Mustang in one of those indoor storage units. Thought it would be fine. Came back in July and the whole interior smelled like a wet dog. The Arizona heat turned that metal box into an oven and whatever moisture was in there just baked into the seats. Never again. Anyone else had problems with non-climate-controlled storage?

I read somewhere that heat cycling in those metal units actually pulls moisture out of the concrete floor like a sponge. That wet dog smell is probably mold in the foam seats, might need a full gut job.

Did you actually pull up the foam to check for mold or are you just guessing based on the smell?

Concrete is porous sure, but it doesn't just wick water out like a paper towel. I've seen moisture come up from the ground or from spills, but not from the metal body itself acting like a sponge. We'd have way more issues with metal sheds and garages if that was a real thing. I'd bet money that wet dog smell is trapped condensation from the foam seats or maybe even a leaky roof, not the floor acting like a thirsty kitchen sponge.
