Pulled the cover off my 71 Chevelle after 18 months and the difference made me laugh out loud
I parked my Chevelle in a buddy's barn in Rockford back in October of last year and threw a cheap blue tarp over it because that was all I had. Last weekend I finally went to get it and the tarp had basically melted into the paint on the roof, leaving this sticky mess that took two hours of scrubbing with mineral spirits to fix. Meanwhile the parts of the car the tarp never touched, like the hood and fenders, wiped clean in five minutes with no damage at all. So my 8 dollar tarp cost me a weekend and a bottle of wax, and I'm still finding blue fuzz in the cowl vents. Anyone know a cover that won't turn into glue after one summer in a hot barn?
Man, that blue fuzz gets everywhere, doesn't it? I read a thread on a car forum where a guy swore by those breathable covers that let moisture out instead of trapping it under the tarp. Seems like the cheap blue ones hold sweat in and bake it right into the paint when it gets hot. The breathable kind costs more up front but apparently lasts years without turning sticky. I'd stay away from anything plastic backed no matter how cheap it is. Live and learn, right?
