Sawdust in the fuel tank solved my moisture problem
My 1968 Mustang sat in the shed all winter and the carb kept icing up every time I tried to fire it in March. I read about adding a desiccant packet to the tank, but that did nothing. Then a buddy at the local cruise-in told me to toss a handful of dry sawdust in there, it soaks up the water and settles at the bottom. I ran a fuel filter inline and swapped it after 20 miles, no more sputtering. Anyone else use weird old-school tricks like this for long-term storage?
Well dang, that takes me back. A buddy of mine ran an old F100 with a similar setup, swore by pouring a cup of dry rice in the tank after every winter nap. He said it clumped up the water and he just fished the soggy mess out with a coat hanger come spring.
Worked fine for him, but he also admitted he never told his wife why the truck smelled like a Chinese buffet for three months. I guess the sawdust trick is just the next step in the same weird direction.
