The $340 dehumidifier that talked me out of car covers
I kept a tarp over my '68 Mustang in the garage for two winters, but moisture still found its way under and spotted the chrome. Swapped to a $340 dehumidifier unit set to 45 percent, and the car comes out dry with zero cover hassle. Anyone else ditch covers for climate control after getting stuck with rust stains?
Covers still have a place even with a dehumidifier running. Air doesn't move under a tarp at all, so dust and pollen just settle on the paint and sit there, and a cover keeps door dings and random junk from landing on it while the car sits. My uncle runs both, cover on his old Chevelle plus a unit set to around 45, and the car stays spotless all winter. The catch is you have to crack a window or the cover traps whatever moisture was already inside, so a lot of guys blame the cover when it was really that. Sounds like your bigger fix was getting air moving instead of trapping it, which a tarp on a concrete floor will never do.
