A single stat about beef vs avocado toast changed my mind
I used to roll my eyes at people saying skip the burger for the planet. Thought it was just hype. Then I read on Our World in Data that producing 1 kilo of beef emits 60 kilos of CO2, while avocados are around 0.5 kilos per kilo. I still eat meat sometimes, but now I actually cut way back on red meat after seeing that gap in black and white. Has anyone else been surprised by a specific carbon footprint number like that?

60 vs 0.5 is a gut punch.

@taylorshah exactly. One hour of effort gone in half a second. Brutal math.

Has anyone stopped to think about what 60 and 0.5 actually represent in terms of time? 60 minutes is a full hour of your life, while 0.5 seconds is barely a blink. The real gut punch is how we measure our investments in people versus how quickly they can decide we're not worth it.

The part nobody really talks about is how that 0.5 seconds isn't just about them deciding you're not worth it, it's about how long it takes for their brain to even register that you existed in that moment. Like you put in a full hour of your life trying to connect, and they process you as quickly as a reflex. It makes you wonder if they were ever really there at all, or if you were just shouting into a void that happened to have a name attached. Maybe it's just me but that half second feels more like a mirror than a decision.
