Bought a heat pump water heater, my electric bill went up 40 bucks
I swapped out my old gas unit for a hybrid heat pump model in Austin back in February. The install took two days and cost me $2,300 after rebates. First month the electric bill jumped from $90 to $130, even though I wasn't using more hot water. Turns out the compressor runs a lot in the winter and the backup element kicks on in cold weather. Anyone else see a similar spike before the savings actually showed up, or did I get a dud unit?

Did you check if it's running in heat pump only mode? That hybrid mode is a trap in the winter.
