Finally accepted that replacing my old furnace would cut my heating bill
I ran into a problem where my gas bill hit $380 two months in a row and I kept thinking it was just the cold winter. After I talked to an energy auditor who showed me my 25 year old furnace was running at 60% efficiency, it took me 3 weeks to decide to replace it. Has anyone else had a hard time letting go of old appliances that were costing them more than they thought?

Read somewhere that older appliances can suck 10% more juice just from worn out seals.

Yeah, people always focus on the obvious stuff like furnaces and water heaters but nobody talks about the ghost loads from old appliances. Your fridge, your washer, your TV, all that stuff still pulls power even when it's off. An old furnace might be the biggest pig at the trough but it ain't the only one. I'd bet money you got a couple of other junkers sucking juice 24/7 that are just as bad. Probably worth checking the rest of your house before you pat yourself on the back too hard.

My 15 year old water heater was costing me almost double what a new one would, took me forever to finally swap it out.
