Finally caved and bought a $400 heat pump water heater after our old one died.

Our electric bill dropped by about $30 this month, which feels like a solid win even with the upfront cost, and I'm curious if anyone else has seen similar savings after making the switch.

Calculate that out. Thirty bucks a month is three hundred and sixty a year. You're still over a thousand in the hole after the install cost. That's a long time to wait for a win, and that's if your power bill stays the same.

People get sold on the long term payoff for everything now. New phone plans, gym memberships, those meal kit boxes. They show you the math and it looks okay on paper. But then life happens. The bill creeps up, you stop using the service, or a better deal comes along. You end up stuck in a plan waiting for a win that never comes.

How long do you think it'll take to pay for itself?
