I was looking at old photos of my hometown lake from the 80s and the waterline is like 50 feet further out now

Old photos can be tricky though. Could just be a seasonal thing, lake levels change all the time. Might not mean anything long term.

Exactly, "seasonal thing" is the key. Lakes go up and down all year, every year. A few old pictures don't show the whole story. You'd need way more data, like actual water level numbers from every month, to prove it's a real trend and not just a dry spell. People see a pattern in a handful of photos and jump to big conclusions.

Yeah, I always figured it was just normal ups and downs too. But seeing the same spot over so many years, with the water line just creeping back further every single time... it's hard to call that a seasonal change. The old pictures really show a pattern you can't ignore. It made me see it's a slow, steady drop, not just a temporary thing. Changed my whole view on it honestly.
