Just noticed the creek behind my house is running clear again for the first time since I was a kid, after the county restored the wetlands upstream last year.
It took about 8 months after they finished the project for the water to lose that muddy brown color, which really shows how these local fixes can have a direct, visible impact, so has anyone else seen a positive change in their own neighborhood from a specific restoration effort?

Yeah, they put in some bioswales on my street and now the storm drains don't back up after every hard rain. It's a real relief.

My city planted 500 rain gardens last year and it cut flood calls by half. It's wild how small green fixes can make such a big difference.

Wait, isn't a rain garden a type of bioswale? I thought bioswales were the bigger drainage channels and rain gardens were smaller, more like planted bowls. Both are great for soaking up water, but they're a bit different. Your city probably used both kinds in their project. The main thing is they work, right?
