Just ran the numbers on my home energy use and was shocked

I finally sat down and looked at my electric bill from last summer in Phoenix. Turns out my AC was eating up 62% of my total usage. That's wild because I thought I was being smart with the thermostat set at 78. Found this out from the breakdown on my utility's website. Anyone else check their appliance by appliance costs and feel dumb about it?

Peeked at my bill last spring after my neighbor bragged about his low energy costs and found out my hot water heater was basically running a marathon every night. It was set way higher than I needed, like 140 degrees, and I was the only one showering. Turned it down to 120 and slapped an insulation blanket on it, and my gas bill dropped about 15 bucks a month. Then I got curious and check my dryer vent and found it was clogged with lint halfway through. Cleaned that out and my clothes started drying in half the time. It's all those boring little fixes you never think about until you actually look.

Felt like a real genius after I found out my ancient water heater was costing me more than my AC.

My AC was eating up way more than I thought too until I put a Kill-A-Watt meter on my fridge and found out it was the real problem. That old thing was pulling crazy power even though it seemed fine, so I swapped it for an Energy Star model and dropped my bill by about 30 bucks a month. I also found my pool pump was running way longer than needed, so I cut its timer down and that helped a ton. Sometimes the little things add up way more than you'd guess.
