My compost bin in Tucson went anaerobic and I spent 2 hours fixing it
Last weekend I opened the lid and got hit with that rotten egg smell, so I mixed in 3 buckets of dry leaves and turned the whole pile by hand to get air back in, but now I am wondering if I should just switch to a tumbler instead.
Did the same thing last summer when mine went sour. Turned it every other day for a week and tossed in a bunch of shredded cardboard from Amazon boxes. That did the trick, no more smell after about 10 days. Also drilled a few more holes in the side of my bin which helped a ton with airflow. A tumbler sounds nice but you still have to turn it, just easier on the back. I kept my regular bin and just got better about adding browns every time I add kitchen scraps. Save your money unless the hand turning is really hurting you.
