My neighbor yelled at me for putting plastic bags in the recycling bin
Last month my neighbor caught me tossing grocery bags into the recycling and totally chewed me out. She said those bags jam up the machines at the sorting facility and ruin whole batches of recyclables. I had no idea they needed to be taken to a special drop off at the grocery store instead. Has anyone else gotten called out for something they thought was fine but was actually messing up the system?

Saw a thing on the news a while back about that exact problem. Apparently those bags get caught in the gears and stop everything, then workers have to climb in and cut them out by hand which is dangerous and slows down the whole operation. I was definitely guilty of this for years before I heard about it. Now I just stuff all my old bags into one bag and tie it off, then toss it in the plastic bag drop bin at the grocery store entrance. Real pain at first but you get used to it quick.
