My uncle spent 20 minutes lecturing me about my thermostat

At Thanksgiving last year my uncle Bob cornered me by the mashed potatoes and told me I was wasting money by keeping my house at 68 in the winter. He said he keeps his at 62 and wears a sweater. I told him my 6 year old has asthma and the doctor said to avoid cold drafts. He just shrugged and said kids these days are too soft anyway. Has anyone else had a family member completely ignore your actual reasons for not freezing inside your own house?

Wait, is your uncle Bob one of those people who thinks cold air makes you tougher, like some kind of sponge bath challenge? Because doctors literally say cold drafts can trigger asthma attacks, so he's basically arguing with basic medical advice just to win a thermostat fight. Honestly, keeping your house at 62 with a kid who has asthma sounds more like a recipe for a hospital visit than saving money.

Bob sounds like the type who'd tell someone with a peanut allergy to just "man up and eat the Reeses"... like okay tough guy, check back in after the epipen wears off. I bet he also thinks sleeping with a window open in a blizzard builds character, meanwhile the rest of us just want to breathe without our lungs staging a rebellion. Honestly, 62 degrees is basically a walk-in cooler, not a home. Tell him you're not running a meat locker for his approval.
